Marathon Session For Louisville Council

By AP

Louisville, KY – It took the Louisville Metro Council eight hours and 100 ballots, but early Tuesday morning democrat Barbara Shanklin was elected president.
The vote was 14 - 12 after democrat George Melton switched his support to Shanklin after favoring republican Kelly Downard for a second term earlier.
It was 1:55 a.m. when the council elected its first African-American and first female president.
