McConnell, Grimes Meet in Owensboro for Political Picnic

Owensboro is preparing to host some old-fashioned political stump-speaking.  This year’s Red, White, and Blue Picnic is Tuesday and will be headlined by U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

The picnic is sponsored by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.  President Amy Jackson expects the appearances by McConnell and Grimes to spike attendance.

"We so excited to have them here," Jackson said.  "We know it will be a draw because this is a race with national implications and we should have a large crowd and lots energy and excitement."

McConnell and Grimes traded barbs August 2 at the Fancy Farm political picnic, but don't expect the same atmosphere in Owensboro.

"We don't allow artificial noisemakers or hecklers.  This is a positive environment and meant to be informative," Jackson added.  "We do expect a fun atmosphere and the campaigning that goes along with it."

Following McConnell and Grimes, candidates for state and local offices will speak.

Tuesday's picnic is from 5:00 p.m-7:00 p.m on the lawn of the Daviess County Courthouse.
