Murray State Changing Policy Regarding Guns on Campus

Murray State University has changed its policy for guns on campus to require everyone but uniformed personnel to leave weapons inside their cars. The move made last week came in the wake of a Kentucky Supreme Court decision in April saying the University of Kentucky improperly fired student from an on-campus job for having a gun in his car.

The high court allowed guns in vehicles, but said universities may still regulate deadly weapons elsewhere on campus.

Murray State University General Counsel John Rall says if a person does not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, the weapon must be placed somewhere in the vehicle where it is visible.
