NCAA Championship Team Headed Home to Wildcat Country

Last night’s championship basketball may have ended late, but that didn’t stop Kentucky supporters from getting up early to get tickets for this afternoon’s Big Blue celebration. Hundreds of fans lined up outside Rupp Arena for the free tickets, including Richie Donworth.

“My wife is an insane UK fan so I’m surprising her with these for later," said Donworth.

Donworth is a native of Ireland and has lived in Lexington for about 10 years. He says winning the title means a lot for the UK program.

“It vindicates everything about Kentucky, Coach Cal, all the one-and-doners, it just shows that it can be done. Three freshmen, two sophomores, problem is they’re not going to be there next year so let’s hope he can do it again," Donworth added.

The UK basketball team is expected to arrive at Bluegrass Airport around 2:45 p.m. A police escort will lead the Wildcats on a drive through campus and downtown Lexington before arriving at Rupp Arena around 3:30 for the celebration. Organizers say tickets are still available at the arena ticket office.
