Owensboro Police Chief Announces Departure

The police chief of Owensboro is retiring.  Colonel Glenn Skeens will leave  September 1st to spend more time with his family. He tells the Messenger-Inquirer he has no immediate plans but wants to stay active in the community.

The 44-year-old Skeens joined the Owensboro Police Department in 1989 as a patrolman and rose through the ranks, becoming chief in 2007.

Skeens says one of his proudest accomplishments was the continuing education and training he helped implement for officers to prepare them for leadership roles.  Skeens says he leaves behind some of the best trained and best educated officers in the country.
