Safety Experts Warn About Drowning Risks

By Dan Modlin/Richard Farmer

Louisville, KY – Water deaths now rank as the third-leading cause of
unintentional fatalities in Kentucky. Child safety advocates
are urging people who own backyard pools to install
and lock fences around the pools.

Erica Kravecs of Kosair Children's Hospital points
out that many children who have survived drowning
incidents still suffer serious brain injury. Kravecs
warns that youngsters can suffer serious injuries
within a matter of minutes in the water.

Experts at Kosair also say its very important for an
adult to monitor the safety of groups of children who
are swimming.
