State To Test Ducks For Bird Flu

By AP

Frankfort, KY – The state Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources plans to test ducks for signs of bird flu.
Officials say they'll test about 500 ducks this winter in cooperation with USDA Wildlife Services.
The samples from migratory mallards, northern pintails and green-winged teals will show if the birds have avian influenza virus, which has spread to parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.
Officials say there's little chance that bird flu would come to Kentucky first.
This year, up to 100,000 samples from birds across North America will be collected by state and federal agencies.
