Trial Postponed for Barren County Sheriff

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton and his two of his deputies will not go on trial as scheduled this month.  According to an order by U.S. District Judge Joseph McKinley, the August 27th trial has been postponed until December 3rd.  The judge’s order also keeps the trial in Bowling Green rather than moving it to Owensboro.

Sheriff Eaton and deputies Aaron Bennett and Eric Guffey have pleaded not guilty to using excessive force on a suspect following his arrest in 2010, and to charges of falsifying documents and lying to federal investigators about the case.

In a deal with prosecutors, Deputy Adam Minor pleaded guilty to one count of giving false statements to federal investigators.  He will be sentenced following the trial of his co-defendants.
