This year's Celebration of Writing at Western Kentucky University will honor the legacy of its late organizer, Mary Ellen Miller. Following the WKU Poet Laureate's death last year, the WKU English Department renamed the event "The Mary Ellen Miller and Jim Wayne Miller Celebration" to pay tribute to the literary couple.
WKU English Department Chairman Rob Hale remembers his colleague, Mary Ellen Miller, as a great person who touched many lives in her 53 years of teaching.
"She embodies the humanities, she was a great teacher of literature, she was a great poet. I think she would probably want to be remembers most as a great teacher and that's how all of her students remember her," Hale said.
