WKU's Quarterback Credits A Higher Power For Where He Is Today

WKU Athletics

The Western Kentucky University football team is in Miami ahead of their Monday bowl game. 6th year senior quarterback Brandon Doughty leads the 11 - 2 and Conference USA champs into the Miami Beach Bowl against South Florida.

Doughty led the nation both this year and last in passing yards and touchdowns, He was rated the nation's muber one passer by the NCAA.

He says he's told the younger players on the team to treat the game as a business trip and to not take anything for granted. "We're conference champs, we've done a heck of a job, we've had a heck of a run up to this time," he says,"but we can't take this game lightly and treat it like a reward. We have to treat it like a real game and we're going to play to win."

Doughty says it took a lot of hard work to go 11 - 2 and win the conference this season. " You have to learn how to win," he told his younger team mates, "It's not given, it's not some thing you're born with. God doesn't give it to you, you have to learn it."

Doughty talks a lot about God and credits Him for getting him where he is today.

His goal after football is to be pastor in churches he plans to open.
