Update: Road Plan Passes Senate Committe, with Sen. Williams' Projects Put Back In

The Kentucky Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee has approved a $4.5 billion transportation budget but not before inserting language that would restore nearly $50 million for road construction projects that had been vetoed by Gov. Steve Beshear.

The spending measure now advances to the Senate floor for a planned vote on Friday. It would provide funding to widen interstate highways, like I-65, expand airports and dredge river ports across the state.

In recognition of "Earth Hour" activities around the world, lights on the State Capitol in Frankfort were dimmed for one hour Saturday. "Earth Hour" is an international program backed by the World Wildlife Federation, to recognize the need to conserve energy and protect the environment.

Governor Beshear Calls for Federal Disaster Assistance Following Friday's Storms

Governor Steve Beshear is requesting a federal disaster declaration for parts of eastern and northern Kentucky hit by tornadoes last week. The declaration would allow federal money to help with clean up and rebuilding. It will also help provide funds to affected businesses.
