Republican County Clerk Files Complaint Against Grimes

Kentucky Secretary of State and U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes

A county clerk in southeastern Kentucky has asked the Executive Branch Ethics Commission to determine the propriety of a fundraising email sent last wek to government email accounts by Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Republican Laurel County Clerk Dean Johnson filed the complaint Thursday, a week after receiving the email from Grimes, a candidate for U.S. Senate.

Johnson is asking the Ethics Commission to determine the legality of the secretary of state sending fundraising emails to county clerks who report to her in in matters pertaining to elections. Johnson said he thinks that Grimes acted unethically by using a government email list to raise money and that she also might have run afoul of state law.

Grimes political adviser Jonathan Hurst had no immediate comment.

General Dynamics Adding 1,300 New Jobs in London and Winchester, Kentucky

An international information technology company is adding 1,300 new jobs at its facilities in London and Winchester, Kentucky.

The new General Dynamics positions will provide technical assistance for the implementation of the federal government’s Health Insurance Marketplace. The General Dynamics site in London will employ up to 1,000 people, with the Winchester facility taking on 300 new workers.

The company already employs 400 people at a site in Corbin.

The new positions are for customer service representatives who will work in call centers at the facilities.

General Dynamics is holding job fairs for prospective applicants July 20 and 27 at the Somerset Community College Laurel Campus in London from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Job fairs will be held in Winchester July 15 and 16 at Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus in Clark County.

Laurel Co. Company Establishes Headquarters, Adds Jobs

SERVPRO of Pulaski and Laurel Counties will establish its headquarters in London, create ten new, full-time jobs and invest $666,500 in the area.

The company specializes in in the cleanup and restoration of residential and commercial properties after fire, smoke or water damage. SERVPRO, in London since 2005, has constructed a 15,000 square foot facility to serve as its regional headquarters.

To encourage the investment and job creation in London, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved tax incentives for the company of up to $300,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program.

Laurel County Mother Files Complaint Against Teacher Over "Democrat" Remarks

A parent has filed an ethical complaint against a teacher who allegedly wrote a condescending remark about Democrats on her classroom whiteboard. The parent, Mary Gilbert, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that she thinks the teacher wrote the comments "You can't be a Democrat & go to heaven" to bully her daughter.

Laurel County Police Say Burglar Uses Taxi as Getaway Car

A southeastern Kentucky man is accused of breaking into his estranged wife's home, taking cash and a computer and calling a taxi to flee the scene. Law enforcement authorities arrested 28-year-old Bradley Hill of Knox County on Wednesday afternoon, about 20 minutes after a burglary in progress was reported at the home west of London.
