Knoxville – The legal problems for members of the University of Tennessee football team are continuing. A Knox County judge has sent the felony assault case against Defensive Tackle Tony McDaniel to a grand jury. Judge Chuck Cerny turned aside a defense request that the charge be reduced to a misdemeanor assault.
Paducah, KY/ Frankfort, KY – The State Senator from Western Kentucky who quit the Republican Party over a disputed state Senate race is losing his committee Chairmanship. Senator Bob Leeper of Paducah has been replaced as Co-Chair of the Senate Capital Construction and Oversight Committee. Leeper is also facing the loss of his Vice-Chairmanship of the Transportation Committee.
Fort Bragg, NC – Fifteen Jurors at the Military trial of Sergeant Hasan Akbar have heard that the accused suffered from mental illness long before he entered the service. Defense Attorney Dan Brookhart told the Court-martial jury that Akbar couldn't have planned a grenade and rifle attack against his fellow members of the 101st Airborne.
